INHERITANCE: Stony the Road We Trod
A Family History by Shereen R. Hart
Every family keeps at least two histories intact: the one it tells and the one the records refuse to let it forget.
From Wewoka OK, the Northern Canadian River, Seminole and Hughes counties and the Muskogee-Creek nations to Fort Mitchell, Yuchi Hills and Seale AL, Russell and Muscogee counties ... and the banks of the Chattahoochee River, Inheritance: Stony the Road We Trod follows two sides of one family backward through generations of names, migrations, marriages, land, slavery, survival, Native ancestry, family secrets—and records that sometimes tell a very different story from the one that was handed down over generations.
The Malones, Steadhams, Skiffs, Lowes, and the Williamses, George's, Griffins and the Mingers, to the Harts and Doctors—and the people whose names were nearly lost along the way.
This is more than a search for ancestors. It is a search for what they survived, what they carried, what they told, and what they kept quiet—and what they left behind for us to find. Included with a dedication page for the masterful writing craft of William Waddell "Bill" Winn, late of Columbus GA - March 2026. RIP.
INHERITANCE: Stony the Road We Trod
Because inheritance is not only what our ancestors left us; sometimes, it is the road they traveled so we could land safely right where we are.
