Good afternoon all, It is with great sadness that I report the passing of my friend Jerry “Pops” Barnes, Columbus City Councilor. Pops Barnes was known by the greater Columbus Community as one of the hardest working elected officials on City Council. Pops served Columbus as a Councilor for District 1 since 2004. As a retired Master Sargent with the United States Army, Pops always advocated for active duty residents and veterans. He made himself available not only to the people in his district but also to the Columbus community at large. He was a great man, an outstanding leader, and will always serve as an example to all of us. Jerry “Pops” Barnes, you will be missed by your friends in the Muscogee County Democratic Committee and me personally. Our prayers are with your family at this very difficult time.
