COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) -

Having touched many lives through her civic and social work in the Fountain City, the homegoing celebration for Evelyn Turner Pugh, a former Columbus city councilwoman who served the city for three decades, was held today, Monday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus.

Mrs. Pugh was born June 23, 1950 and she transitioned peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. Francis-Emory Hospital at 71 years of age.

Family, city officials, former colleagues, sorority sisters, and citizens gathered at the church to say goodbye to the woman who many call an icon in the Fountain City and Valley area. One of Turner Pugh’s church members, Mary Brooks, told News Leader 9 that today is not a sad occasion.

Today, the community celebrated the many accomplishments of Mrs. Pugh. Her family stated that they are happy she is no longer in pain after spending the last two decades battling Parkinson’s Disease.

She leaves cherished memories to her friends, colleagues, and family, including her children, Marcus Deon Turner (Tosha), Maurice Turner (Cairla), Reggie Pugh, Jr., Tijuana Pugh and Talender Pugh; her grandchildren, Lyric Turner, Lincoln Turner, Makaylah Turner, Mekhi Turner, Jasmine Kirkpatrick, Imani Pugh-Bridgeman, Jaylon Pugh, Kennedi Pugh, Taylor Pugh, McKenzie Pugh, Caleb and Reagan; one sister, Eleasure Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
