Op-Ed: Dear Senator Ossoff...$5K ain't enough

Image

Senator Jon Ossoff (Democrat-GA) introduced a Voter Integrity Bill that lays out a plan to protect election workers and polling places ... only the maximum money damages is $5000.

That's not enough. And neither is the five years. They can't get at least the 20 years a Black man in Louisiana got for stealing two shirts?

Not even the same as Timothy Jackson ... "Life for a $159 Jacket?" We're talking about stealing an election where votes were counted so many times that the gubment money wasted on the counts could have paid off quite a few student loans in full - thousands of them, as a matter of fact.

The types of terrorist attacks that were committed on the Capital on January 6, 2021 is easily 'handled' with a bunch of $5,000 fines ...a mere slap on the hand considering they were so willing to pay MILLIONS to go there and smoke the place out and kill people to stop what was supposed to be the 'peaceful' transfer of power to a duly-elected President of the United States.

This was not a "Hillary won but I'm gonna be president in her place" attack, this was an "I lost again, and I insist I will be president forever regardless of what people vote" attack on all that is left of human decency is politics and elections.

Not even after uninstalled-but-elected President Hillary Clinton won the 2016 election by more than four million votes did you see such a display by Democrats. Louis Farrakhan and more than half a million Black men descended on DC in 1996 to protest sad circumstances in Black communities across the nation and didn't so much as leave a bag of garbage behind, let alone poop (trademark maga) smeared all over inside walls. A young Black woman in this country couldn't even go to school without the spittle of these types on her clothes and in her face, yet - no attacks on the Capitol building in Washington DC. The death of Emmett Till should have caused that kind of a riot...it would have been justifiable ... and yet

SHAME. SHAME. SHAME!

That little itty bitty $5k fine is an 1862 number when folks are already planning on paying it before they get there. "Oh, that's all? Let's go get 'em! Go get my piggy bank off the back porch son!"

If it's important enough to protect at all, these types of thug law violators and oath-breakers should be paying $100k a pop every time they think about doing such a thing again.

Section 11 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (52 U.S.C. 10307) is amended by adding at the end the following:

...“(f) (1) Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, by force or threat of force, or violence, or threat of harm to any person or property, willfully intimidates or interferes with, or attempts to intimidate or interfere with, the ability of any person or any class of persons to vote or qualify to vote, or to qualify or act as a poll watcher, or any legally authorized election official, in any primary, special, or general election, or any person who is, or is employed by, an agent, contractor, or vendor of a legally authorized election official assisting in the administration of any primary, special, or general election, shall be fined not more than $5,000, or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this paragraph or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined not more than $5,000 or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both."...
