On the 2018 Census Data (last Census available), Columbus GA ranked in the TOP 10 Cities in the country to have small businesses to close down every year. #shutteredvenues
In 2013, the city of Columbus was in the Top 10, but was in ninth place.
As of 2018, Columbus climbed back into the Top 10 in the nation for closed businesses, only this time it was in sixth place--considerably higher than where it was in 2013. Notably, Columbus' employment rate is slightly over 59%, meaning a bit more than 40% of the city stays consistently unemployed.
The other nine cities in the Top 10 in 2018 were: Huma-Thibodaux, LA; Syracuse, NY; Charleston, WV; Topeka, KS; Scranton-Wilkes Barre-Hazelton, PA; Cleveland-Elyria, OH; Bloomington, IL; Atlantic City-Hammonton, NJ; and Torrington, CT.
Comparatively, as of the same Census period, these towns were among the poorest cities in America. The good news, Columbus (GA) didn't make this list.
