Attorney General Calls on Legal Community to Assist in Housing and Eviction Crisis

Image

I wanted to share with you this letter and video message from Attorney General Merrick Garland encouraging lawyers, law students and others across the legal community to apply their training to assist in the housing and eviction crisis we face today.

The scenario is tragically familiar to all of us who work to end gender-based violence: a survivor of abuse gathers the courage and resources to seek safety, but there is nowhere to turn.

Shelters are full.

Affordable housing is scarce.

And the pandemic has made everything more complicated.

Survivors trying to find safe options for themselves and their families can feel trapped, and all too often are faced with homelessness.

As we described last month, there are specific resources we can access including a rental assistance finder website to help.

Please help us spread the message to encourage everyone in the legal community to help respond to this crisis.

Thank you.

Allison Randall, OVW Acting Director
